One hundred and fifty medical students new to the UIW School of Osteopathic Medicine took part in a traditional White Coat Ceremony on Sunday.

The school located on Brooks City Base campus got a $50 million dollar facelift, which features large interactive learning studios, high-tech classrooms and other student resources. The school hopes to help supply future doctors for in-demand specialties.

“We need more primary care physicians, family physicians, general internal medicine physicians, pediatricians who care about the effectiveness and economical and efficient care of communities, that continuity of care that a family can come to a particular physician, and get their majority of their health care needs met," said Robyn Phillips-Madson, founding dean of the UIW School of Osteopathic Medicine.

The new school is the second osteopathic medical school in Texas and is the sixth Catholic medical school in the U.S.
