WELLESLEY ISLAND, N.Y. -- For more than a century, it was the spot on Wellesley Island for families and kids to have some fun in the summer time. But 3 years ago, the building on the Thousand Islands Park which housed "The Guzzle' Ice Cream and Candy shop burned in a fire.
The community vowed to rebuild. It took a while, but The Guzzle is back open.
The shop, which features a restaurant and store now as well, held its ribbon cutting over the weekend. Those who have been coming here for decades say it just feels right.
"I'm reliving my youth," TI Park Resident Charlotte Brooks said. "I also remember when I used to bring my own children here and they played on the playgrounds and loved to come over and get a milkshake at The Guzzle. Now that can all happen again for the next generation."
Among other businesses, the building also housed the park's post office and fire department. The post office has moved across the street. As for the fire department, those decisions are still taking place. Right now, all fire services are coming from the other side of the island.
