Charlotte man a finalist in national Lay's chip com­pe­tition, vying for $1 million

CHARLOTTE -- Three new flavors of Lay's potato chips are in stores, and one of the three finalists is from North Carolina.

This is part of the company's 'Do Us a Flavor' contest.

Greg Pope lives in Charlotte, and his family is asking you to vote for his new flavor, fried green tomato.

He picked it because he says fried green tomatoes remind him of his childhood.

Pope says they were also the perfect feel-good food his dad prepped for their family dinners.

You can vote every day, until Oct. 8, on Lays.com or using the hashtag #votefriedgreentomato on Twitter and Instagram.

The other two flavors are "Everything Bagel" and "Crispy Taco."

Pope could get $1 million if he wins.

He says the money would go toward supporting his family and starting a college fund for his daughter.
