The project will absolutely be finished that is the word from the CEO of the NY Wheel, Rich Marin. He said there is no question it will be complete.
About two weeks ago there was a dispute between the developer and the wheels builder and the two mutually decided to end their relationship. Currently, construction has stopped on the wheel itself but it continues on the visitor’s terminal and parking garage. Marin says he has identified a new builder and they are currently in the process of negotiating a contract.
As far as, an update on the timeline of completion Marin says it is still too early to put a date out there. Before the disagreement with the builder completion was expected for the summer season of next year. News that work on the 630 foot wheel stopped has worried a lot of people. This project is of course the center piece of the development on the North Shore of Staten Island so many other projects are banking on its completion. Marin gives this reassurance about the wheel's completion.
"Not too many people will come to see a terminal building a garage. They are coming to see the wheel and we are putting millions and millions of dollars in every month to complete the terminal and garage and there wouldn't be any purpose in that if we weren't planning on finishing the wheel and that is perhaps the best logical commercial evidence that you have that our intensions are what they say we are," said Marin.
While many of us know Marin as the President and CEO of the NY Wheel he is also an author. He has written several financial books in the past but now he has written a biography and the subject is his mother, Millie Uher.
“Mater Gladiatrix” tells the story of Uher as a rare trendsetter that defied gender barriers. Despite coming from humble beginnings she became highly educated, an athlete and a diplomat to name some of her accomplishments. Uher passed away this past February at the age of 100 prompting Marin to write her story.
