Breezy Point residents still recovering from Hurricane Sandy will have two more years to fix their homes without having to deal with certain bureaucratic red tape.
Governor Cuomo signed an extension to a law that streamlines part of the process this week. The law allows Breezy Point residents who are rebuilding to get permission from the City Department of Buildings -- without having to also get the green light from the City Board of Standards and Appeals.
The extension is new Assembly Member Stacey Pheffer Amato's first bill to be signed into law.
“It's time,” said Pheffer Amato. “It's five years after the storm and I don't think families trying to work and rebuild we be able to go through this process.”
“It was both time and costs that this community and homeowners in this community could not afford to wait for,” added former Breezy Point Cooperative General Manager Arthur Lighthall.
The extension goes into effect immediately.
