SAN ANTONIO — Starting this weekend, the Alamodome will have new rules on the size and types bags allowed inside.

Similar to the NFL’s Clear Bag Policy, the new guidelines will ban things like backpacks, camera cases and large purses.

“As you limit the size of the bags that can be brought in, it limits the things security is concern about,” said Director of the Convention, Sports and Entertainment Facilities Michael Sawaya with the City of San Antonio.

The new security rules allow clear, plastic, vinyl or PVC bags or small purses.

“Around the country and most big stadiums we find that there are policies like this,” said Sawaya.

City officials say the smaller the bags the faster security lines and improved safety measures.

“It’s not in response to anyone particular thing. It’s a trend around the country in any event that has a major attendance. So, we find that it’s a matter of diligence and providing that level of security that in today’s world would be needed,” said Sawaya.

The Alamodome Clear Bag Policy takes effect Saturday, June 10.
