WRIGHTSVILLE BEACH -- A shark bit a man in Wrightsville Beach on Thursday.
According to Wrightsville Police Chief Dan House, a fisherman caught a shark off the Johnny Mercer's Pier.
Then a man went into the water and grabbed the shark by the tail. The shark swung around and bit him in the arm.
The extent of the injury is unknown. The unidentified man was taken to New Hanover Regional Medical Center for treatment.
House added that this is not a case of someone getting bitten by a shark while playing in the water and reiterated that the man made a deliberate choice to approach the shark.
