The city's newest area code is making its debut.

Starting Saturday, Manhattan residents with new phones may receive the 332 area code.

"Nobody likes new things. It's like when you buy shoes: first time it hurts, but then they get used to your feet and then it's OK," one New Yorker reflected.

State public service officials say the new code is needed to keep pace with the growing demand for personal and business phone numbers.

People NY1 spoke with said it might take some time to warm up to the three-digit code.

"I think it's just a little confusing. I don't know, but there's a lot of area codes out there, so I think it will work out fine," one woman said.

332 is the state's 18th area code, and Manhattan's fourth.
