The St. Lawrence County District Attorney will not be back for another term. DA Mary Rain says she will not be seeking re-election.

When asked whether there was a specific reason, she said "no."

Rain's time as the county's top prosecutor has been tumultuous. When elected, she ran on a platform that she would find justice for Garrett Phillips, who was killed in his home in Potsdam. Rain unsuccessfully tried Nick Hillary for murder. He was found not guilty.

Last year, in April, county lawmakers voted no confidence in Rain as DA. In November, they called for her to resign.

Now, we know at least one person is pushing to take her place, and that's one of her former employees. Former Chief Assistant DA David Haggard plans to officially announce on Friday his intentions to run for office.
