SAN ANTOINO - Large crowds gathered in front of the Alamo on Saturday for the crowning of the new King Antonio.
It’s been one of the longest-standing Fiesta traditions and dates back to 1926.
Michael A. Casillas was given the prestigious honor as the 95th and is the first Latino King Antonio.
During Fiesta Casillas will visit places like schools, hospitals and nursing homes throughout the community to deliver a message of positivity and kindness.
“The history of the Cavaliers – this is the first time that there has been King Antonio that has a Hispanic surname, and it’s a milestone. I mean, the Cavaliers have always been inclusive. They’ve grown to reflect the population of the city that they serve," said Arthur Cavazos of the Texas Cavaliers.
Through the Texas Cavaliers Charitable Foundation, more than $500,000 was raised last year benefiting over 40 children’s charities.
