ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. — An event many still associate with Texas, specifically Waco, is the subject of a new TV miniseries.
- Filming will take place in New Mexico
- Michael Shannon, John Leguizamo to Star
- Based on event that happened in 1993
Michael Shannon and John Leguizamo will star in a series detailing the deadly 1993 standoff involving the Branch Davidians.
The standoff lasted 51 days. Four federal agents were killed along with almost 70 people inside the compound.
The siege ended April 19. After an FBI negotiator asked over a loud speaker for Koresh to lead his people out, military vehicles began ramming the buildings and spraying tear gas. A few hours later flames were seen spreading through the compound. Only nine people escaped.
Work on "Waco" will begin in mid-April and last through June, officials with the New Mexico Film Office said Monday. Locations will include everything from the rural reaches of Santa Fe County — standing in for the prairies of Central Texas — to urban office buildings and studios.
