SAN ANTONIO - Professionals at a Texas transplant hospital are proud to announce that it's first of its kind in the nation.

On Friday, the Texas Transplant Institute reported record-breaking results from its kidney and liver transplant programs in 2016. The hospital's live donor kidney program ranked the best overall in the nation.

New records set include 360 kidney transplants from 202 living donors and 158 deceased donors, and 64 liver transplants.

The hospital's chief executive says San Antonio is lucky to have the best medical staff in the U.S.

"Our mission of serving humanity to honor God by providing exceptional cost-effective health care accessible to all - we live that mission by wanting to make this type of lifesaving surgery accessible to everyone," said Jeff Wilson.

Staff at the hospital says the need for organs is still greater than the supply.
