SYRACUSE, N.Y. -- They pride themselves on live music nightly, an electric atmosphere, and you can’t forget their mouth-watering waffles.

"Everything we do here is about entertainment and showing people a good time," said Funk 'N Waffles Owner Adam Gold. "Whether it's food or music or drinks or just a place you can talk to your friends, have a business meeting or your wedding, we're a venue of any kind."

But this Syracuse-based restaurant is now expanding its boundaries, headed to Water Street Music Hall in Rochester this spring.

"Compared to the other projects I've done, I hope it will be much faster," Gold said. "I wouldn't say easier, because the space is very large, but I intend to complete it in the next few months."

But as one door opens, another one closes. Last month, developers got the OK to demolish the longtime restaurant and other tenants to make way for construction of an eight-story building. Gold says the timing is just a coincidence.

"There's not much we can do. We don't own the property, so with the sale of the building, we're being forced to leave at least for the time period while they are building it," Gold said. "And I'm hoping we can find a new location in the space when it's ready."

This Wednesday will be the last night Funk and Waffles on the SU hill will be open. As it does every Wednesday, it's going to have its open mic night and encourage everyone in the community to stop by for a big blowout event.

There will be retail space on the bottom of that eight-story apartment complex. Gold says re-opening in that location is certainly a possibility.
