As the President's controversial travel ban makes its way through the courts, a Queens-based rapper hopes his lyrics bring people together.  NY1's Shannan Ferry reports.

Queens-based rapper Anik Khan said his music allows him to express himself. A Muslim and an immigrant, Khan came to the United States when he was 4-years-old.

So, he said he took President Donald Trump's controversial travel ban personally.

"It's un-american in my opinion, and it's not something that you know our country is founded on, said Khan.

Now Khan has released a new single, Columbus, a rap he said he hopes will unite people.

The President's executive order temporarily banned people from seven Muslim-majority countries from coming to the United States. On Thursday, a federal appeals court in San Francisco declined to reinstate the nationwide ban, which was initially blocked by a federal judge in Seattle.

Still, Khan said his new song is a reminder to all that America is a country of immigrants.

"There's anger in there, there's also a bit of excitement in there right, right, because I'm talking about fighting for what we believe in," said Khan.

President Trump has consistently defended the travel ban saying we need stronger borders and vetting. In one tweet he said "When a country is no longer able to say who can, and who cannot , come in & out, especially for reasons of safety & security - big trouble!"

Now that his ban was shot down, Trump is vowing to fight on and could take his case to the Supreme Court.

Meantime, Khan said he just hopes his lyrics provide others with a voice.

He said his father moved to Queens from Bangladesh to come a cab driver and raise his family; Khan's version of the American Dream.
