KYLE, Texas — The Hays County Sheriff charged the mother of a 5-year-old girl with capital murder on Friday.
Krystle Villanueva, 24, is being held on a $1.1 million bond in the Hays County Jail. She is accused of killing her 5-year-old daughter, Giovanna Hernandez.
Villanueva is also being held on an aggravated assault with a deadly weapon charge.
The charges may change according to authorities.
The girl was found dead after sheriff's deputies responded to an aggravated assault call in Kyle. She died from multiple stab wounds, according to the Sheriff's office.
At around 12:51 p.m. Thursday, the Hays County Sheriff's Office said it received a 911 call of an aggravated assault that had just occurred at a home on the 200 block of Willow Terrace in the Green Pastures subdivision.
Authorities called it one of the most "horrific" cases they've seen in Hays County.
When deputies arrived at the house, they found Eustorgio Arellano,58, suffering from multiple stab wounds. The man is Villanueva's father in law.
The man said the woman in the house had stabbed him.
Deputies called the Hays County SWAT team for support, and they found the woman's 5-year-old daughter dead in the home.
The man was taken to the hospital where he was treated and released.
A spokesperson with the Texas Department of Family and Protective Services confirmed that the family had previously been investigated by the agency, but did not give any specifics or the outcome of their investigation. They are currently working with law enforcement, however.
