NEW BERN, N.C. - A Pamlico County commissioner who was arrested in a human trafficking sting is resigning after 8 years in office.
Kenneth Heath, one of 10 people who were nabbed during the sting at the comfort suites hotel in New Bern, is charged with attempting to patronize a prostitute.
He had resigned as a part-time Craven County sheriff's office deputy prior to his arrest to take another job but his law enforcement certification has since been terminated.
The GOP executive committee is expected to send its recommendation for Heath's replacement to the board of commissioners by the end of the month.
