POUGHKEEPSIE, N.Y. -- The city of Poughkeepsie came out to kick off the holiday season Friday night.
Thousands celebrated with a parade down Main Street, featuring two tree lightings and a fireworks display.
It all started at the Barney Building Lot, where the first Christmas tree was lit.
The second tree was illuminated at the end of the parade route at Dongan Square Park.
That's also where people could enjoy a fireworks display and a visit from Santa.
"You feel that, you know this is the holiday buzz now right?" Poughkeepsie Mayor Rob Rollison said. "Everybody is here to really enjoy themselves and it's a great sense of community and that is really happy for us."
People could also purchase tickets to see the family movie classic, “It’s A Wonderful Life” at The Bardavon 1869 Opera House.
