It was born out of a patriotic desire to serve the country, and 75 years later the Civil Air Patrol continues to do just that.

Squadrons across the region celebrated the organization's anniversary Thursday.

The Civil Air Patrol formed at the beginning of World War II, and became a non-profit organization after the war.

It's three core missions now center on emergency services, aerospace education and cadet programs.

"We still believe in a strong service to our local communities, the states that we serve in, and the nation as a whole," said Douglas Jensen, a group commander for the Civil Air Patrol.
