A popular Syracuse pond was vandalized yet again, but this time, the suspects were captured on camera. As Alexa Green explains, Webster Pond volunteers want to hold those responsible accountable for their actions.
Syracuse native Janelle Wilbur Kemp's 3-year-old grandson just can't stay away from Webster Pond.
"He called us this morning and asked us to bring him to the duck pond," she said.
For them, feeding the ducks is almost a weekly activity, which is why she was disappointed to find out about the recent increase in vandalism.
"I feel like we shouldn't have to watch every move people are making in the area, and I'm sure it's not a neighborhood child," Wilbur Kemp said.
The most recent incident came about a week ago. The group kicked down the bird food dispenser and stole money from it. This time though, it was all captured on camera.
"This time we were able to catch who did it and hopefully justice will be served," said President Friends of Wildlife at Webster Pond Chad Norton.
Volunteers are reaching out to the public to help identify the group involved in the latest incident.
"You reach a certain age and you know what's right and wrong and you know it's wrong to steal from somebody and hopefully down the road they get out of it but we pretty much know who they are and we're looking for them," added Bill Norton, the vice president of Friends of Wildlife at Webster Pond.
For the Wilbur Kemp family, this place will forever hold a special place in their heart.
"Lot of memories we've been coming over here. My children are all grown but they came here and fished," she said.
