MORRISVILLE, N.C. -- A Guinness World Record has never been set in Morrisville.

However, all records are made to be broken.

"I had to be a part of it,” said Jennifer Woods of the U.S. Veterans Corps. “It’s not every day can you actually break a world record."

Morrisville's moment in the spotlight came Tuesday.

Lenovo and the U.S. Veterans Corps set out to break the record for most toys donated in 24 hours, which was set at 45,657 by beverage maker Tang in 2013.

"We started at 7 a.m. this morning. We blew the horn, and by 9, I think we were halfway there," said Scott Ottman of Lenovo.

By noon, they had broken the record.

"Not only will you break the current world record, but you guys will smash it," said Christine Conlon from the Guinness Book of World Records.”

In total, Lenovo and the U.S. Veterans Corps donated 52,076 pounds of toys.

"In the old days, toys weighed something,” said Ottman. “Nowadays, 46,000 pounds is a lot...a lot of toys."

With the record theirs, volunteers reflected on not just how many toys were donated, but where they were going. Every donation went to Toys for Lil Troops, which gives them out to children in military families.

"Because we are veterans, we want to cater to our own and take care of veterans and military families," said Woods.

A world record has finally fallen in Morrisville. More importantly, that world record will give military kids all around the region something to remember.

"You know what, based on what they do to serve our country, this is the easy part," said Ottman.

Toys for Lil Troops is still taking donations for the holidays. Donations can be made through the US Veterans Corps website.
