CORNING, N.Y. -- A man was killed in a car crash after a chase with law enforcement in Corning on Wednesday.
Chemung County Sheriff's deputies say the suspect tried to leave a Walmart in Horseheads with a cart filled with merchandise and ran off when security took the items back.
Deputies spotted him hiding in a ditch on County Route 64 about 40 minutes later. Investigators say he ran off again, stealing a car from a woman in a nearby parking lot.
Police tried to chase him, but called it off when it became too dangerous. Shortly after, the man was involved in a head-on collision on East Corning Road where he died.
Two people in the other vehicle were hospitalized. There has been no update on their injuries.
The suspect's name is not being released yet.
