GUILFORD COUNTY -- David Oreck is well-known as a vacuum cleaner tycoon, but few people know he's the owner of a candle business here in the Triad.

The Candle Company in Greensboro is celebrating over 10 years of success.

"People love candles, and it changes their life, adds to their life, makes it more pleasant, shall we say," said David Oreck.

He's seen it all in his 93 years of life. From World War II to his success with his vacuum cleaners and now his candle business in North Carolina.

As a veteran Oreck says giving back to the community comes first.

"I think it's essential to make things in America, in American factories with folks that are local and sell them to people who are basically Americans. That's where it belongs."

City official Kathi Lester says the candle factory's economic impact is spreading across the region.

"It's contagious, if you will, and it's spreading that positive mentality and that 'can do,' and that's what's great about Greensboro and the Triad community. We are that little engine that could, and we are all working together to support each other to grow the Triad region."

Oreck has over a dozen employees, and he says that number may increase with the holidays just around the corner.
