WILMINGTON, N.C. -- The Cape Fear Fair & Expo is attracting thousands of visitors who are eager for rides and fried food, but that's not all the fair has to offer.

The 10-day long event features nearly 230 farm animals from across the state. They are all hoping to win a variety of fair competitions.

Organizers say livestock has been a main attraction at the fair since it began 45 years ago. This year they have a very special guest – a 500 pound pig.

"He was our Hurricane Matthew refugee. Pender County Animal Rescue brought him in here hoping we could help him find a home. We're here until the sixth. So maybe we can find him a good home," said Fair Manager Skip Watkins.

Hogzilla was rescued after Hurricane Matthew flooded his farm.

The fair runs through Nov. 6.
