The new "Sports Plex at the Mount" was unveiled Wednesday on Mount Loretto’s Hylan Boulevard campus. The new gym space was completed thanks in part to a $300,000 grant from the Richmond County Savings Foundation and includes new turf, ceiling fans, and a party room.
"This building sorely needed a renovation. And so we changed the venue over to an indoor training facility. People are going to rent it they're going to use it for football, for soccer, for cheerleading," said SI Catholic Charities CEO Vincent Ignizio.
"They removed all the basketball backboards because it is now an enormous space to play a number of different sports," said Jim Kelley who is a member of the Richmond County Savings Foundation Board of Directors.
The project which will now serve as a rental and sports complex for the community took about 70 days to complete.
