Inside the newly opened courtyard Marriott in Schenectady that broke ground earlier this year is 124 rooms, tailored to the business traveler or tourist.

What will become the Rivers Casino and Resort opening next year is just a stones throw away. The Hotel will provide a shuttle to and from.

"We feel that we're part of something bigger, not just a hotel but really helping Schenectady and Mohawk harbor be somewhere that people look to stay," said Marriott Director of Sales Tom Gabriel.

For capital region Chamber of Commerce President Chuck Steiner the hotels opening he says means another investment in the community.

"We do need rooms, we've seen a shortage of them," said Steiner.

The two both say their goal is not only to provide visitors a place to stay, but keep them local, investing in local businesses.

"We want to really help keep people in Schenectady, when they come to visit or come to do business," said Gabriel.

"There's so much more to come in that 60 acre site and offers so much opportunity for visitors," said Steiner.
