FULTONVILLE, N.Y. -- The inside of Montgomery County's new Public Safety Building features nearly 10,000 square feet of offices and state of the art equipment. The new public safety facility's biggest addition is the war room for officials in case of a disaster.
The facility broke ground in October of last year and is attached to the Montgomery County Sheriffs Office in Fultonville. Everything inside was paid for through grants. Before this month many of the officials were housed in the basement of an old county office building for years.
"There were no windows, no outside access and when it would rain it would flood because of water filling up in storm drains," said Jeff Smith, Emergency Services director.
The new facility is also home to public defender, mental health and the office of probation, where probation director Lucille Sitterly, who's been with the county since 1969, recently moved in.
"This is much more secure, we have a secure door for clients to come in its quieter and a much better work environment," said Sitterly.
All with the hopes to better serve the public.
"I hope our government officials and constituents when they see what they have here are satisfied and happy with the effort and money that was put in," said Smith.
