NATIONWIDE — Mazda and Ford have both issued vehicle recalls related to door latches.

Mazda is recalling more than 750,000 cars and SUVs because the rear hatches have potential to fail.

The recall is for  2010-13 Mazda 3 compact cars as well as 2012-15 Mazda 5vans. Also included are certain 2013-16 CX 5s and 2016 CX 3 SUVs.

Mazda says the corrosion protection coating on the hatch lift supports wasn't sufficient. Over time, water can get into the supports, causing them to corrode and break.

Mazda says it has no reports of injuries stemming  from the problem.

The company will notify customers of the recall soon, and owners can have the lift supports replaced by a dealer.

Ford Motor Company is expanding its own recall over problems with door latches.

The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration is recalling another 1.5 million vehicles.

The company says the problem is a spring in the side door latch that could break and cause the door to open while driving.

Latches will be replaced at no cost to customers.

The recall includes 2013-15 Ford C-Max and Ford Escapes, 2012-15 Ford Mustangs and Lincoln MKC's and 2014-16 Ford Transit Connects.
