Officials Release Name of Ft. Bragg Solder Found Dead at Off-Base Home

FORT BRAGG, N.C. - We're learning the name of the Fort Bragg soldier found dead earlier this week.

Officials say 34-year-old 1st Sgt. Lafonte Bennett was found at a home off base, Wednesday.

A cause of death has not been revealed, officials saying they're currently investigating.

Officials responded to Bennett’s death saying quote:

"Bennett’s service to our Army and nation has been nothing short of exceptional. He was widely respected for his extensive combat experience and technical expertise. His leadership ability was emulated by soldiers of all ranks and career fields. The 18th field artillery brigade will never forget 1st Sgt. Lafonte Bennett ".
