They're the sounds and sights the 10th Mountain Division looks forward to hearing. This ceremony at Whiteface Mountain honors all the men and women who have served in the division over the decades.

"I enjoy it. I really do. It's a great division to be a part of. The history in it is amazing," said 10th Mountain Division Specialist Jamari Woods.

"The 10th was created July 15, 1943, and I was there, I was in the Army at Camp Hale from February '43 until we left there, went to Italy, and went back," said 10th Mountain Association Upstate NY President and Veteran Bill Morrison.

And it eventually came to the North Country. Bill Morrison is part of this honored division that was formed during World War II. He points to their ability to tackle any challenge.

"I think it's primarily to recognize that the division had a beginning and it's continuing after a hiatus," Morrison said. "It's a very unique division at the time. America has never had a mountaineering outfit before this."

"I had a brother-in-law who was in it. He went through hell over in Italy, and I got the book on it. And I respect every one of them," said World War II Navy Veteran John Sweet.

Friday's ceremony particularly recognized those in the division that made the supreme sacrifice for their country.

"The ceremony is important because we want to remember those that have lost their lives in battle. And, to keep that alive, it means a lot to current soldiers and past soldiers, because it lets us know that nobody has forgotten us," said Woods.

The rededication also serves as a reminder to the community that the 10th Mountain has been, and continues to be, involved in efforts to keep our country safe.
