ROCHESTER, N.Y. -- There's "magic" happening at the Rochester Institute of Technology.

The school is officially the first university to publish a video game on the Xbox One gaming system.

RIT's Center for Media, Arts, Games, Interaction and Creativity, or "MAGIC" for short, launched the role playing game to the public Wednesday.

"Hack, Slash and Backstab" allows one to four players to navigate a maze filled with creatures to fight.

They work together to get to the end, and only one player can win.

The original concept was thought up last year by the MAGIC Center founder and director, Andrew Phelps.

"It was an idea that I had last summer and I started sketching on it and figuring out what that game would be, and I work with a friend of mine, Aaron, ans we kicked it around and decided it was a good enough idea to use for our class in the fall on game production, which led to the class," Phelps said.

It was developed by a group of 15 students during the course of a semester, then polished over their next year at RIT.
