NORTH CAROLINA -- Two North Carolina universities are ranked among the top in the world according to a new ranking released by the Center for World Class Universities at Shanghai Jiao Tong University.
Duke University took the 25th spot and UNC Chapel Hill ranked 35th among world universities. When it comes to U.S. universities, Duke comes in 19th and UNC Chapel Hill is 25th.
The six factors used for the 2016 Academic Ranking of World Universities include papers published in nature and science, number of alumni and university staff winning Nobel Prizes and Fields Medals, highly cited researchers, papers indexed in major citation indices and the per capita academic performance of a university.
