A music legend played Brooklyn for the first time in more than 50 years Thursday night.
Herbie Hancock performed in the bandshell at Prospect Park, headlining the BRIC Celebrate Brooklyn festival.
A former member of the Miles Davis Quintet, the 76-year-old is known for infusing jazz with electronic sounds and elements of funk, resulting in a series of crossover hits in the 60s and 70s and 14 Grammy awards.
One fan who spoke with NY1 loved the mix of people watching Hancock play.
"I was standing in the long line outside and I thought that there was a wonderful mix of people from old to young to culturally diverse. It was just a beautiful, beautiful energy. I think that he really brings people together," said the concert goer.
Rapper Common, who, like Hancock, was born in Chicago, made a special guest appearance on stage at the show.
