A love of learning started very early for 12-year-old Grand Prairie, Texas, native Jeremy Shuler. He was able to read fluently at the age of 2, and his thirst for knowledge in math and science continued to grow rapidly from there.

"By 4, I was sampling equations, and by 6, I learned more advanced algebra," Jeremy said. "And at 7, I started learning calculus."

Shuler was mostly home schooled, and earlier this year, he earned his high school diploma through Texas Tech University's K-12 program. Before graduation, he took his SATs and several Advanced Placement exams, which he successfully passed.

His parents say the next step in his education was an easy one to make.

"We thought it's time to send him to college," his mother Harrey said, "because there's not much for us to do about his education anymore."

Schuler will begin classes at Cornell University this fall, majoring in Aerospace Engineering and Physics. Despite his young age, many TWC News spoke with at Cornell feel that he will thrive.

"I mean, he's 12 and he got into Cornell Engineering School. That's amazing," said Sue Sappington, a Cornell employee with the ILR school.

While many did express concerns about his socializing with the older students and faculty, Shuler says he's looking forward to begin the college experience. One thing in particular already has his attention.

"I don't think I'll have any problem socializing. And they have good food at Cornell. That is very important," Jeremy said.

Classes for Cornell's fall semester begin August 23.
