NIAGARA FALLS, N.Y. -- Imagine taking a family vacation where you travel all over the country and take a bunch of great pictures along the way, only to lose them all. The Niagara Falls Visitors Center is trying to make sure a family doesn't have to go through that.

"Somebody had left the camera on the counter while they were talking with them and just walked away from it," said Tina Mt. Pleasant, Niagara Falls Visitor Center manager.

Staff at the Visitor Center say they find items like sunglasses or hats left behind regularly, but a camera filled with family photos is rare, and so they are reaching out in an effort to find the family.

"We've done Twitter, we've done our Facebook, everybody's been sharing it out there," Mt. Pleasant said.

We tried retracing their steps at the Falls and over at Maid of the Mist, to no avail.

The chances of this family still being in the area are not very good. The pictures on the camera were taken between July 21 and July 24. In that time, they made it to several stops across the country.

Those pictures reveal stops at the Bean in Chicago, Dinosaur World and Mammoth Cave National Park in Kentucky, and somewhere in Indiana. Perhaps even more important, there are Christmas pictures from three years ago, and birthday pictures from nine years ago.

No one knows where they're from or where they're headed next, only that it would be a shame if they didn't recover these photos.

We may not be able to find them, but hey, isn't it worth a try? Please share this story and with any luck we'll be telling a very happy story soon. Leave a comment below, or call the visitors center at 1-877-FALLS-US.
