NIAGARA FALLS, Canada -- There's just something majestic about Niagara Falls. For some, the thrill comes from the roar of the falls on the hurricane deck or the power of the water on the Maid of the Mist. MistRider Zipline to the Falls is a new way to experience the majesty of the falls, Nick Wallenda-style - sort of.

"I was nervous at first. because I'm afraid of heights. But they set you up. They put all the equipment on for you, so there's nothing left to chance, which is super amazing," said Melissa Secord, an Ontario resident.

Niagara Falls, Ontario has a new adventure park that includes feeling the mist of the falls while ziplining over the Niagara Gorge. Wednesday was the grand opening of WildPlay Element Park. Four ziplines take you up 200 feet over the gorge on 2,200 foot ride.

"It was just truly breathtaking. The experience itself. The beauty of the falls, the water, the feel of the mist on your face, and then the big surprise for me was actually the foliage that's down there, the beautiful trees. You never get that perspective from this level," said Janice Thomson, the Niagara Parks Commission Chair.

Riders reach speeds of about 37 miles per hour!

"As you're going down, the second half, you can feel the mist hitting your face, which is a nice sensory experience, and it's just a beautiful view. It seems a lot slower so you can really capture that view," said Secord.

The ziplines have been in talks for about five years, and was put out to bid three years ago.

"To see that vision that we had fulfilled, it's terrific," said Thomson.

Riders must be at least 7 years old and weigh between 65 and 300 pounds.

"We've had people with visual impairments ride. People with hearing impairments ride, and it is an accessible action, and we're working with local groups to determine how we can make it more accessible as well," said Rich Merlino, the WildPlay Niagara Falls general manager.

Iif you're looking for even more thrills, the Whirlpool Adventure Course will open at the end of the summer. It features dozens of cliffside climbing, jumping and swinging games, including a 40-foot tethered jump, all over the gorge.

The zipline is at 5850 River Road in the Grandview Marketplace. You can access it from an elevator outside the tower used by Hornblower Cruises. The attractions are open from 9 a.m. to 8 p.m. daily through October, with seasonal openings in April or May, depending on the weather.
