SAN ANTONIO—The Secretariat descendant that survived terrible abuse and found a loving home in the San Antonio area has died.

Rumbling Disco, the 16-year-old Thoroughbred whose story Time Warner Cable News chronicled last year, was euthanized Thursday.

Disco's adoptive owner, La Vernia's Michelle McCombs, said X-rays showed a bone in his foot had dropped so far that it became too painful for him.  Animal Care Services found Rumbling Disco near death on the Inner West Side in February of last year. He weighed only 640 pounds, half what he should have weighed.

A Texas equine nonprofit nursed Disco back to health before McCombs adopted him months later. She says the great-great grandson of Secretariat was a fighter to the end.
