IRONDEQUOIT, N.Y. -- A close call Monday for a number of homeowners in Irondequoit.
Residents of Briarcliff Road tell us that a large crane toppled, narrowly missing houses and garages.
These photos were taken by Tom Venner shortly after the crane came down.
It happened about 4:30 p.m. Monday. Neighbors say crews were using the crane to
trim tree branches around power lines in the neighborhood off St. Paul Boulevard.
Irondequoit police say Birchcrest Tree and Landscape was operating the crane.
They were contracting for RG&E.
No one was was injured. One neighbor tells us a small boat in a backyard was crushed.
RG&E issued a statement saying in part, "We are relieved that no one was injured and only minor property damage occurred."
They went on to say, "We have suspended further crane work pending an investigation to determine the root cause of the incident."
