NORTH CAROLINA -- The Powerade State Games of North Carolina will return to the Piedmont Triad in 2017 and 2018.
North Carolina Amateur Sports announced Thursday four cities will host the state's largest multi-sport event - Burlington, Greensboro, High Point and Winston Salem.
"It offers us an opportunity to really showcase the Piedmont, not just High Point, not just Winston-Salem, not just Greensboro, but the entire Piedmont Region,” Nancy Bowman with the High Point Convention and Visitors Bureau said.
NCAS, a non-profit organization, organizes the state games each year. It features athletes of all ages across the state and South Carolina who participate in more than 25 sports.
The 30th State Games are currently happening in the Triangle and will wrap up this weekend.
Burlington And High Point will host for the first time. Greensboro hosted the Games in 1997,1998,1999,2007 and 2008. Winston-Salem hosted the Games in 2003, 2004, 2011 and 2012.
The convention and visitors bureaus from the four cities will meet next week in Raleigh to discuss with NCAS which cities are best suited to host certain athletic events.
