BROOME COUNTY, N.Y. -- New York State’s "Path through History Weekend" is here, and residents marked it in the town of Maine Saturday.
The Nanticoke Valley Historical Society offered tours. But the main event was the dedication and renaming of the museum, in memory of Jan W. Bowers.
Her family's historical contributions to the town date back to the 1800's. Officials said Bowers continues to inspire.
"Part of her life was dedicated to preservation of history, old buildings, and any documents that we have. And that's our charge. Our main charge is to preserve history but our other thing is for education,” said Philip Childs, Nanticoke Valley Historical Society President.
Museum exhibits are available to the public through September 18.
