AUSTIN, Texas -- A dramatic scene in front of an Austin home was caught on camera after a truck owner spotted a suspected would-be thief inside his vehicle and rushed out to stop him at gunpoint.
The truck owner, whose name and address is being withheld, told Time Warner Cable News that he had spotted the suspect on his home surveillance camera walking up to his vehicles at least seven times prior to the incident in late April.
Residents of the same neighborhood shared images of a man who they say is the same suspect, also casing their vehicles in their driveways late at night, prior to the events in the video.
In the surveillance video submitted to TWC News, the suspect is seen walking up to the truck in the driveway, he opens the door, climbs inside and begins to search the interior.
Shortly after, the suspect is seen exiting the vehicle and is ordered to the ground by the truck owner who rushes out to the front yard with a handgun.
Police arrive soon after to take the suspect into custody.
The truck owner and the neighborhood residents identified the suspect as 17-year-old Nathaniel Colbert.
Court records indicate that Colbert was arrested by the Austin Police Department and charged with burglary of a vehicle in connection to this incident.
Colbert has a court date coming up in mid-May.
"The police were very happy because it was pretty much open and shut with the video footage provided," said the truck owner.
