SYRACUSE, N.Y. -- Undertaking infrastructure in Syracuse is a big endeavor.

The city's innovation team hopes looking at the big picture can narrow their focus year by year.

"When we get these projects on a map, we're able to see both conflicts and opportunities that exist for road construction," Project Manager Adrianna Finch said.

And that lets the I-Team plan and improve as much infrastructure as possible.

"Once we do identify the roads we want to mill and pave, we're also trying to coordinate with other city departments and also outside stakeholders utility companies, contractors, to ensure that we're making our best effort to repair the roads," Finch said.

As the I-Team works to coordinate projects within city departments, the group is also looking to bring the public into the process as well.

"People don't mind that you're cutting into the road, that you're improving infrastructure, but they do want to know when it's happening, where it's happening, and in some cases why it's happening," Program Coordinator Addison Spears said.

The I-team has created a website to help detail construction projects across the city.

Residents can see planned and current construction work, as well as the projects start and end date.

It will play a major role as the I-Team starts implementing their initiatives.

Everyone working for the city will have a role to play as well.

"Ultimately the implementation is going to be up to a variety of different people throughout the organization, and different departments, and so working with them very closely along the way I think has been really important, certainly to get their ideas but then also to have their buy in and their commitment to making these happen," I-Team Director Andrew Maxwell said.

Next year the I-Team will have a new focus in Syracuse.

However, workers will continue using the ideas they developed to build a better city.
