LANCASTER, N.Y. -- A popular Lancaster restaurant is closed after a fire Thursday night. Firefighters found part of the front of Forestview Restaurant on fire just after 7 p.m.
They believe someone threw a lit cigarette into some mulch outside the building, which led to the flames. Workers noticed the fire after it spread into the bar area.
"That's what started the mulch fire, and it spread to the wall. Then we had some extension inside," said Hugh Wolf, assistant chief of the Twin District Fire Department. "We had to do some digging from top to the bottom of the wall there just to validate that there was no extension."
There is no word when the restaurant will reopen.
