Land of Oz to Open for Limited Time for 'Journey with Dorothy' Event

WATAUGA COUNTY -- Beech Mountain's Land of Oz will open for a limited time in June for a special event, "Journey with Dorothy."

The theme park was in full operation from 1970 to 1980 but now only opens for rentals and special events including its annual "Autumn at Oz" festival.

The "Journey with Dorothy" event includes a scenic chairlift up to the Land of Oz and a guided tour with Dorothy down the yellow brick road.

The tours will take place on June 3, 10, 17 and 24 at 10:30 a.m., 11:30 a.m., 12:30 p.m., 1:30 p.m., 2:30 p.m. and 3:30 p.m.

Tickets are $12.50 plus a $10 roundtrip lift ticket.
