CHARLOTTE -- Charlotte-Mecklenburg police are taking a new, more focused approach to hear residents' concerns.

CMPD's Eastway Division recently launched a survey just for their jurisdiction.

“Each division basically gets to control their own survey and when they want to push it out. It's a customizable approach,” said Lt. Joel McNelly.

Their goal is to find out how they can better serve their diverse response area.

“Eastway Division is kind of like a melting pot of Charlotte,” McNelly said. “For instance, the NoDa area is a much younger, tech-savvy group, whom we may be able to communicate better with social media, whereas another neighborhood may be made up of older residents where we have to pass out newsletters.”

They're trying to reach as many people as possible through an app called Nextdoor, emails, homeowners associations and apartment management groups.

Eastway residents have until June 11 to fill out the survey.

McNelly said other CMPD divisions will roll out their own customized surveys at different times throughout the year. Keep an eye on police notification, emails or social media groups for details.
