SYRACUSE, N.Y. -- A Syracuse University alum is being recognized for her contributions in the health care field.
FOCUS Greater Syracuse held its 7th annual Wisdom Keeper award event.
Doctor Sharon Brangman received this year's award, recognizing her extensive research contributions that help older adults be more active and healthy.
Officials say she guides patients, doctors, caregivers and medical students in the process of aging in good mental and physical health.
Her contributions are what help older adults persevere through life's inevitable challenges.
"Aging is not a disease, its a natural process we are all going to go through," Brangman said. "Even though it can be hard, there is lots of things we can do to make sure it is a very meaningful part of life.
Brangman was named director of the Center of Excellence for Alzheimer's Disease at SUNY Upstate back in December.
