STATEWIDE - The North Carolina Values Coalition has filed a public records request regarding House Bill 2.
The organization is firing sharp jabs again the City of Charlotte by accusing the mayor, city council and the Attorney General of colluding to misinform the public about House Bill 2 and ultimately hurting the state’s economy.
Governor Pat McCrory has since called HB2 an imperfect bill.
Last week he signed an executive order to expand the equal protection policy for state employees to include sexual orientation and gender identity.
However, the NC Values Coalition is standing by the law in its original state.
"This problem was created by the City of Charlotte. We want to find out if they worked together to pass this ordinance and exactly what has happened in terms of this influence that's been brought to bear on large corporations, different organizations and bookings in the state of North Carolina," said Tami Fitzgerald, NC Values Coalition Executive Director.
This public records request comes just one week after the Human Rights Coalition and Equality NC sent an open records request to Governor McCrory calling for transparency in the decision making process before he signed House Bill 2 into law.
