WILSON, N.C. -- More than 1,500 households in Wilson will have food on the table for the upcoming holiday weekend with help from the community.

For more than 40 years, the Opportunities Industrialization Center has been making sure the community doesn’t go hungry, and on Wednesday, that mission continued.

Bags of groceries filled with chicken, bacon, vegetables and fruit were handed out, and those who were in need of medical care were also able to get help during the day’s event.

"When I grew up, our neighbors took care of neighbors and they would provide to the other neighbors who were less fortunate than us.  OIC is that neighbor that provides for the community," said Ralph Carter, a Wilson resident.

The Wilson OIC holds this food distribution four times a year.
