WINSTON-SALEM -- Those with a passion for going green got a chance to hear Thursday how they can be a part of a growing movement.

The U.S. Green Building Council North Carolina Piedmont Triad branch held a panel discussion at Wake Forest Biotech Place in Winston-Salem.

USGBC created the LEED certification program which designates homes and buildings as resource efficient. LEED stands for Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design.

Kimberly Lewis with USGCB said North Carolina has 760 buildings with that designation.

The panel advised the audience on opportunities and ways to get involved in the green building industry.

"Making sure that the next generation is ready today to take a leadership stance and continue to move this conversation forward about healthy productive buildings that give back to people and make them better, healthier and more productive," Lewis said.

The panel discussion was part of a day long event exploring the green building industry in the state.
