ADDISON, N.Y. -- A new event center at Addison High School, just completed as part of a $22.9 million capital project, has officially opened.
“It’s nice to come in here and be proud of where we’re from,” said Jordan Woodhouse, a junior. She and other students here have been waiting a long time for the new gymnasium.
“I think that it’s absolutely wonderful. I was so excited when I walked into the new gym,” said Catherine Flint, a student.
“A lot of positive vibes, people are excited, people that were here years ago said 'I’ve been waiting for years for this,'” said Joe DioGuardi, Addison Central School District Superintendent.
Money from the project also went towards building state of the art classrooms and new labs but, students say the most popular feature is the gym.
“Because we would go to other schools and see everybody getting updates," said Flint. "And we didn’t have one for a while so we were down in the dumps, but then we finally got one and it looks amazing.”
The new facility has only been open a week, but students say they’ve already seen a significant increase in the amount of people coming out to cheer on their teams.
“I know it’s a great feeling to have the entire community come out and support you," said Woodhouse. "You just feel, more confident.”
“Even our student section has filled immensely," said Flint. "I’ve been at every game since."
