BUFFALO, N.Y. -- Local public transportation advocates outlined their plans to get Western New Yorkers from point A to point B at their annual meeting Wednesday night.

Citizens for Regional Transit is petitioning local groups and governments to support efforts to offer more options to travelers. Among their suggestions are an extended Metro Rail and light rail service between Buffalo and Niagara Falls. They're also looking to get a transportation center built at Canalside similar to the new one going up in Niagara Falls.

In the short term, the group wants to finance a feasibility study for installing gondola service along Buffalo's Outer Harbor.

Leaders said they know their plans could exceed the funding that's currently made available from local and state government, so they're considering all funding options.

"It's not adequate,” said Doug Funke, the group's president. "It's not just Buffalo that's having problems. A lot of cities are. We need to find more a stable and a more substantial source of funding."
